Healthy and Joyful Smiles Start at AGE 1

Baby teeth usually start to emerge between six and nine months, with the lower front teeth appearing first, followed by the upper front teeth, and then the canines.
These baby, or primary, teeth serve as placeholders for the adult teeth that will eventually come in. As the adult teeth develop, they push against the roots of the baby teeth, causing the roots to dissolve and making room for the permanent teeth to take their place.
Primary teeth are essential for your child's ability to bite, chew, and speak. Keeping them healthy supports natural tooth loss and ensures a smooth transition to permanent teeth.
Your Child’s First Visit
Before Their Visit...
- Complete all paperwork ahead of time to allow for a relaxed, unhurried visit.
- Bring a favorite toy or stuffed animal for comfort and familiarity.
- Talk positively about the appointment. Use simple, encouraging language and avoid words that may create fear or anxiety.
- Schedule the visit at a time of day when your child is typically well-rested and fed, if possible.
When You Arrive...
- Explore our interactive play area, designed to ease nerves and make dentistry feel approachable.
- Parents are invited to enjoy a drink from our parents’ lounge while your child settles in.
During Their Visit...
- Your child will be brought back to their own private treatment room.
- You’ll meet our friendly clinical team and Dr. Austin, who will take time to connect with both you and your child.
- We’ll review your child’s oral health, growth and development, and answer any questions you may have.
- Education is a key part of the visit—we focus on prevention, home care, and age-appropriate guidance.
Each visit is tailored to your child’s individual age, development, comfort level, and specific needs. For some children, this may be a simple “happy visit” focused on getting comfortable in the dental environment; for others, it may include a gentle exam or preventive care.
There is no “one-size-fits-all” approach to pediatric dentistry. We move at your child’s pace, prioritize trust and comfort, and work collaboratively with parents to support long-term oral health. Our goal is to build a positive foundation that helps your child feel confident about dental care for years to come.
