FAQ’s
Biological pediatric dentistry focuses on caring for your child’s oral health with an emphasis on whole-body wellness. We use biocompatible materials, minimally invasive techniques, and treatment decisions that prioritize long-term health—not just the teeth. Our goal is to support your child’s overall development by understanding the connection between oral health and systemic health.
What is biological pediatric dentistry?
While traditional dentistry treats dental issues as they appear, biological dentistry looks deeper at how oral conditions affect the entire body. We avoid materials that may be reactive or harmful, prioritize prevention, use conservative treatments, and consider airway, nutrition, inflammation, and growth patterns in every decision.
What makes us different?
Yes. We use BPA-free sealants and composite materials, and we offer fluoride-free treatment options. All materials are chosen for their safety, effectiveness, and biocompatibility, ensuring they support both oral and systemic health.
Do you use BPA-free, fluoride-free, or biocompatible materials?
We offer remineralization options such as hydroxyapatite products, nutritional guidance, and minimally invasive techniques that strengthen and protect teeth without fluoride. Parents may choose the options that best align with their family’s health philosophy.
What alternatives do you offer instead of traditional fluoride?
Yes. We use dental lasers for procedures like frenectomies and certain cavity treatments. Lasers reduce discomfort, minimize bleeding, shorten appointment times, and often eliminate the need for anesthesia—making visits more comfortable for children.
Do you offer laser dentistry for children?
A tongue-tie or lip-tie occurs when thick or tight oral tissues restrict movement. This can affect nursing, speech, airway development, and oral habits. We offer gentle laser frenectomies to release the tie with precision and minimal discomfort.
What is a tongue-tie or lip-tie, and how do you treat it?
Yes. We use digital X-rays that significantly reduce radiation exposure—up to 80–90% less than traditional film. We take X-rays only when necessary and use protective measures to keep your child safe.
Are X-rays safe for children?
We evaluate breathing patterns, oral habits, bite development, and sleep quality. When needed, we collaborate with specialists or recommend therapies such as myofunctional therapy, expansion guidance, or habit correction to support proper growth and airway health.
How do you support airway and facial development?
Absolutely. Prevention is central to biological dentistry. We take a whole-body approach by supporting healthy nutrition, oral microbiome balance, mineralization, hydration, and breathing habits—all of which play a role in cavity prevention.
Do you offer holistic approaches to cavity prevention?
Your child’s first visit focuses on creating a positive, comfortable experience. We review medical and dental history, examine oral development, check for cavities and airway concerns, and provide education for parents. We take things slowly and at your child’s pace.
What should I expect at my child’s first visit?
Yes. While we are a fee-for-service practice, we gladly accept all PPO dental insurance plans. We are considered out-of-network with all insurers, but we handle the billing for you and submit your claims directly so you can take advantage of your out-of-network benefits. Many of our families still receive reimbursement depending on their specific plan. Our team is always happy to help you understand your coverage and provide estimates before any treatment.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. Our practice is designed around children’s comfort. We use tell-show-do techniques, kid-friendly language, minimally invasive methods, and a calm, supportive environment to help ease anxiety.
My child is anxious about the dentist—can you help?
Yes. We offer several sedation options to help ensure your child’s comfort and safety during dental care. These include nitrous oxide (laughing gas), oral sedation, and general anesthesia when clinically appropriate.
Sedation is not routinely needed for every child. Our recommendations are based on your child’s age, medical history, treatment needs, and comfort level.
Do you offer sedation dentistry?
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends visits every six months. We tailor this schedule based on your child’s cavity risk, development, and overall health.
How often should my child visit the dentist?
We focus on creating a positive and enjoyable experience for your child. Our friendly team uses playful language, calming techniques, and child-friendly tools to make dental visits feel like an adventure. We engage in fun activities to help your child feel relaxed and confident about their care.
How do you make dental visits comfortable for my child?
Please call our office immediately. We offer guidance over the phone and can often see your child the same day for urgent dental concerns such as pain, swelling, or trauma.
